Skills for Care: Developing Leaders and Managers

What is it?

Skills for Care's leadership development programmes, tools and resources support all current and aspiring managers within our sector. They offer leadership programme such as Moving Up aimed at supporting black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) leaders to take the next step in their career, the Top Leaders programme for senior leaders and a New Directors programme designed to meet the specific needs of new and aspiring Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS). Skills for Care has specific resources to support succession planning for the next generation of managers including a guide for ‘Developing new managers and deputies’ and also continual professional development modules for managers which focus on understanding performance management, self-management skills and workplace culture.

Why do it?

It's important that leaders and managers have the opportunity to develop themselves to ensure that the highest standards of quality in social are met and maintained across the sector. Ensuring that aspiring leaders are identified and supported within organisation is crucial to meet both current and future challenges and also for recruiting and retaining staff.

This varies depending on the resource or programme you are looking at, but some resources and tools are available free of charge.
