HEE: Overseas Recruitment
What is it?
Global Learners Programme
Health Education England’s Global Health Exchange is working with providers globally to offer an educational programme for healthcare workers who would like to spend three years in the UK. The Programme is based upon on an Earn, Learn and Return model. The programme will create dynamic partnerships and build long lasting relationships with global healthcare organisations and healthcare professionals alike.
The in-country Spoke and Spoke Partners are working with HEE’s Global Learners Team to source and develop candidates for entry onto the programme. This includes preparation for the English language examination (IELTS/OET) if applicable; the NMC Test of Competence – part 1 (CBT) and their onward journey into the programme. CV’s are shortlisted by the HEE Global Learners team (the Hub) and then presented to the Trust ready for interview, using either WebEx or Skype.
Once the nurse has received their invitation from the NMC to attend the UK-based Test of Competence – part 2 (OSCE) and all the pre-employment checks and visa processes have been completed; the nurse will travel to the UK. Flights to the UK and three months accommodation will be provided by the Trust along with a comprehensive programme of pastoral care.
Global Learners will commence their employment with the NHS employer as a Band 3 HCA, until they are in receipt of their NMC registration upon successful achievement of the OSCE. The nurse will then be required to complete a formal programme of Preceptorship delivered by the Trust.
A key element of the programme is the educational offer. The nurse will study for a Post-Graduate Certificate in Global Learning with a UK education provider. The learners will be expected to fund this formal programme of study.
